Description
Sustainability in its three dimensions
„environmental“, „economic“ and „social“ can be understood
as a description of complex functions for a highly dynamic system to
guarantee prosperity at present as well as in the future. The
behavioural shift towards a sustainable development is overdue,
particularly for one of the main economic drivers: Manufacturing with
its important role in global value creation.
Project A2 aims at
developing significant, scientific robust sustainability indicators for
products and production processes, which can be measured and managed
easily for the application in sustainable manufacturing. The first
step is to identify globally applicable sustainability goals and
objectives. Next step is to check the practicability by narrowing down
the set of indicators and use them via case studies together with A3.
Furthermore, a method is elaborated to reduce those indicators to a
manageable set for the application in sustainable manufacturing, which
keeps track of the progress of all three dimensions of
sustainability.
