CRC 1026 has intensely contributed to the 13th Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing (GCSM) held in Bình D??ng New City, Vietnam from 16th-18th September 2015. CRC scientists presented 14 research papers and held six working sessions. With his key note presentation CRC 1026 coordinator Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rainer Stark provided the 200 participants with up-to-date results of the CRC’s multidisciplinary approach for sustainable manufacturing. Herewith, the collaboration research center proudly complied with the driving role it traditionally plays at the GCSM.

This year’s motto „Decoupling Growth from Resource Use“ strategically targeted innovative solutions for global sustainable growth, without the exploitation of natural and social resources. Participants from 30 different countries gathered at the Bình D??ng International Convention and Exhibition Center and took the chance to exchange hands-on experience, transdisciplinary perspectives and to build networks.

The „Industrial Day“ on 17th September 2015 brought together influential leaders from education and industry such as Sanjeev Bahl, President of SAITEX jeans manufacturing company, Dr. Reiner Hengstmann, Global Director at PUMA Safe Supply Chain, Ryosoke Masumitsu, Plant Manager of BOSCH Vietnam, as well as the internationally renowned scientist and best-selling author Prof. Dr. Gunter Pauli.

Innovative solutions for resource management, sustainable business models and social and technological infrastructures were discussed. With regard to the hands-on policy at the Vietnamese-German-University (VGU), that is advised by CRC 1026 with reference to teaching sustainable manufacturing, new approaches to the delivery of sustainability in education were presented. A special emphasis was put on the industry’s growing demand for a highly qualified workforce also in low-wage countries.

On the third day, the theoretical concepts presented during the conference were complemented by an on?campus?tour at the VGU as well as on?site?visits to the corporate partners Minh?Long and SAITEX to offer the participants insights into implementation strategies in sustainable manufacturing. Innovative technologies and environmentally sound production methods were introduced, connecting industry and science in a national as well as a global context.

This year’s conference was jointly organized by the Vietnamese-German-University and TU Berlin. The GCSM 2016 will be held in Agrabies, South Africa, October 2nd-9th.
